My First Shawl with YarnArt Flowers
Share
I’ve just started my crochet journey… and somehow ended up making a shawl. I’m still not sure how that escalated so quickly, but here we are 😄
I used YarnArt Flowers 297, and honestly, I think the yarn deserves most of the credit. The colours move from soft cream into deeper earthy tones so smoothly that it almost feels like cheating… you just keep going and it looks good.

I wanted something calming (and beginner-friendly), so I chose a pattern with gentle texture and a bit of openwork. Once I got into the rhythm, it became one of those “just one more row” projects… which usually means another hour gone without noticing.
Of course, there were a few moments of confusion along the way. A couple of “why does this look wrong?” situations… followed by realising I skipped a stitch somewhere 10 rows back. Character building, I guess.

This shawl is worked as a triangle, growing row by row, and I love how you can actually see the progress. Even before blocking, it already drapes nicely, which feels very rewarding for a first project.
Materials I used:
- Yarn: YarnArt Flowers 297
- Hook: soft-grip crochet hook 3.0mm
If you’re just starting like me, I’d really recommend something like this. It looks impressive, but it’s actually very relaxing to make… once you accept that counting stitches is now part of your personality.

You can find YarnArt Flowers 297 on my website if you’d like to try it yourself.
